Yaya Toure has taken the unexpected step to help Barcelona out of their deep crisis.

Touré spent three years at the Nou Camp, winning two LaLiga titles and the 2009 Champions League before moving to Manchester City.

Like many former Barca players, he is desperate at the big club’s current predicament.

“It may be a difficult time for the club, but my faith in Barcelona is strong,” Toure tweeted on Saturday, hours before Ronald Koeman was beaten 2-0 by LaLiga champions Atletico Madrid.

“I will always be available to the club if they need me because my heart will always be with the club, the people and the fans!”

Barca are in financial ruin, more than £1bn in debt and saw their wage bill fall to a maximum of £90m last week, equal to Watford’s.

Due to their financial crisis, they could not afford to keep Lionel Messi and forced them to loan Antoine Griezmann to Atlético Madrid on transfer deadline day.

They also find themselves in crisis on the pitch, stumbling into LaLiga and losing both of their opening matches in the Champions League group stage for the first time ever.

Touré, however, seems like an unlikely figure to help Barca restore its former glory.

The Ivorian retired from playing last year after seeing his career in China and is in the early stages of his journey as a coach.

“I will be forever grateful to the club for what they have done for me,” Toure said of Barca.

He currently works as an assistant to Akhmat Grozny in the Russian Premier League, where he previously worked as an assistant for Olimpik Donetsk.

And while pressure on Barca coach Ronald Koeman is mounting, it seems unlikely that Barca would turn to Toure as a successor.

Although his stint in Catalonia was short-lived, Toure is eternally grateful to the club for giving him the platform to prove himself as one of the best midfielders in the world and to help the club in their hour of need.

“My time at Barcelona was one of the best memories of my playing career,” he added.

“The club decided to trust me when I was a young player, but to establish myself in the top leagues.

“I will be eternally grateful to the club for what they have done for me.”
