The terrifying moment when the ceiling in a busy shopping center collapsed dramatically next to a packed Woolworths during a huge storm cell has been captured on video.

The ceiling above four shops in Westfield on Mount Druitt sagged and collapsed, causing panels and cladding to collapse on the floors of the shops as a violent super storm ravaged Sydney on Thursday afternoon.

The dangerous roof collapse happened around 4 p.m. at shops around a packed Woolworths on level one of the centre, which had to be evacuated.

The dramatic video shot from the mall shows portions of the ceiling above a Best & Less exhaust falling to the floor as the water begins to trickle down.

Other photos taken by rescuers show an adjacent Indian restaurant, Sehaj Indian Food and Sweets, completely destroyed by the roof collapse.

The entire Westfield Mall was evacuated and four stores were affected, NSW Fire and Rescue told Daily Mail Australia.

The service received a call at 4:09 p.m. and rushed to the crime scene with two trucks, including eight fires.

No injuries were recorded.

“Based on what we know, the rainwater seemed to have channeled to the right above the store and collected there, causing the ceiling to collapse.”
