Most Sugary Summer Drinks Revealed: Pret a Manger’s Chocolate Shake Takes Number One With More Than DOUBLE Your Daily Sugar

Pret a Manger’s summer drinks have the highest sugar content at an average of 32.3 g per drink, while the chain’s Chocolate Shake has more than double your daily amount of sugar, new research finds.
Intrigued by finding the most sugar-filled summer cold drink menu, Brewsmartly.com took advantage of expressdentist.com’s research on the sugar content of our favorite cocktails to find out how much sugar could be in our daily summer drinks.
The four most popular drinking establishments were collected by number of stores in the UK. Using the nutritional information on each of their respective websites, each drink was then ranked based on its sugar content.
After analyzing the nutritional information of milkshakes, frappes, iced coffee and smoothie drinks in each menu, researchers found that Pret a Manger is the most sugar-filled summer drink menu.
Pret a Manger has an average of 32.3 g of sugar per cold drink, which is the highest average sugar content of all the chains mentioned in the study – and also comes out on top with the highest average calorie content of 212.3 kcal.

Caffè Nero is in second place, just 5.7g away from first place with an average of 26.6g of sugar per drink. The retail chain has four drinks in the top ten, all above 40 g of sugar and has the lowest average calorie content of 120.1 g.
In third place is Costa Coffee with an average of 25.1 g of sugar per drink and an average of 185.9 calories per drink.
In fourth place is Starbucks, with 22.4 g of sugar in the average cold drink. Starbucks has an average calorie content of 185.9 per drink.
After analyzing the top ten drinks, Pret’s Chocolate Shake took first place and was found to contain a whopping 60.7g of sugar – double the maximum recommended amount of 30g for an adult in a day – the same amount of fat and protein ( 11.2 g) and is highest for calories (439).
Second, Starbuck’s Caramel Frappuccino, which contains 49 g of sugar, also contains 367 calories and is relatively low in fat at just 4.3 g.

In third place is Costa’s Golden Caramel Frostino (with Light Dairy Swirl) with 48.7 g sugar.
It also contains 298 calories and a relatively high carbohydrate content of 57.1 g.
Meanwhile, Caffè Nero has two drinks that collectively take ninth place for the lowest sugar content; the Salted Caramel & Pistachio Frappe Crème and Espresso & Caramel Frappe Crème both contain 44.3 g of sugar.
Closely followed in eighth place is another Caffè Nero drink, Hazelnut & Chocolate Frappe Crème (44.8g sugar).
