While Netflix has been leading the way in streaming X-rated dramas to our living rooms, Amazon Prime is springing into action with its own very spicy offering that is proving to be a hit with viewers.

The Voyeurs, which appeared on the platform earlier this month, is a psychological thriller about a young couple who begins to watch their mysterious neighbors have sex.

But their lives are soon thrown into turmoil when their peeping turns into an unhealthy obsession, with viewers eventually discovering that they are part of a sadistic experiment about the dangers of peering into other people’s lives.

The thriller features several full-blown sex scenes, oral sex, nudity, threesomes, and several disturbing and horrific scenes that viewers have described as “twisted.”

The Voyeurs, which appeared on the platform earlier this month, is a psychological thriller about a young couple who begins to watch their mysterious neighbors have sex.

The film warmed up many viewers with erotic sex scenes and “shaken” by its unexpected ending, with some viewers calling it “Fifty Shades with a Better Storyline.”

The story begins with Pippa (Sydney Sweeney) and Thomas (Justice Smith) moving into a large apartment in Montreal and soon realizing that they can see straight into their neighbor’s apartment from their window.

Their neighbors are Seb (Ben Hardy), an artistic photographer, and Julia (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), a former model – who routinely have spicy sex in full view of their window.

On their first night, the couple begins to watch Seb have oral sex with Julia, and while Thomas suspects the pair “wanted them to watch,” Pippa insists they shouldn’t watch.

But after Pippa becomes captivated by the couple’s lives from afar, she soon buys binoculars so she and Thomas can get a closer look.

Soon they see Seb shooting topless models and cheating on Julia with one of them.

Meanwhile, Pippa starts pleasing her boyfriend while watching her neighbor in another full-blown sex scene.

Not content with just watching, the couple decides to sneak into Seb and Julia’s Halloween party and eavesdrop on their house, soon overhearing an argument between the pair over Seb’s alleged cheating.

When Juliet apologizes to her boyfriend who is wearing sexy lingerie and he refuses to accept it because of their argument, Thomas and Pippa become convinced that Seb is a gaslighting, abusive partner.

In a strange twist of fate, Julia then becomes one of Pippa’s patients at the eye clinic where she works as an optician, with the pair becoming close friends and agreeing to meet again.

Shortly afterwards, Pippa witnesses a threesome between Seb and two models, and anonymously warns Juliet that her boyfriend is cheating.

The next morning, Pippa sees Seb discover Julia’s body in the bathroom, after seemingly slitting her own throat. Thomas blames Pippa for their neighbor’s death, and the couple split up.

Despite being heartbroken at their breakup, Pippa continues to watch Seb have sex, eventually following him to a nearby pub where they chat and eventually return to his house to have sex.

While Pippa is at Seb and Julia’s flat, Thomas heads back to their house where he drinks a drink his girlfriend left in the fridge before tossing the rest into their bird feeder.

The next morning it is revealed that he hanged himself in his flat, with Juliet assuming he witnessed sex and was so devastated that he committed suicide.

When Pippa goes to Seb’s exhibit, she discovers that Juliet is still alive and that their entire exhibit is a twisted social allegory based on herself and Thomas’ obsessive interest in their neighbors.

They reveal that they own Pippa and Thomas’s flat, and that their house is rigged with cameras – something buried in their lease – and that they’ve been watching the couple since they moved in.

Photos show a topless Pippa being taken in her neighbor’s flat, the couple seeing Seb and Julia having sex, and a disturbing photo of Thomas hanging, sparking outrage throughout the show.

When Pippa comes home and discovers dead birds near the bird feeder, and an empty drink in the fridge, she realizes that Juliet and Seb orchestrated Thomas’s death and made it look like suicide to give depth to their exhibit.

Pippa, who works as an optician, retaliates by spying on Seb and Juliet and using the machine used in laser eye surgery to burn their retinas and blind the couple.

Viewers were hooked on the thriller and couldn’t believe the ending of the twist, with one writing: ‘Just finished the movie #TheVoyeurs, it was sooo awesome and screwed up, there were so many sharp twists and turns. Definitely recommended’.

Another said: ‘For me this is fifty shades of gray, but 50 times better. The characters are likeable, the story is interesting, it’s sexy, kinky, tense, exciting, funny in some ways. This is how Fifty Shades of Gray should be, what people pretend it is.”

A third wrote: ‘Just finished watching and omfg. I didn’t expect that, LIKE WTF!! I was shaken in a very twisted way, this was a fucking masterpiece (pun intended)’

“Um, this movie was incredible, yet so twisted, unsettling and intriguing at the same time. 10/10,” said another.

“It’s the most unhealthy part of my life. The fact that I have doubts and fears about posting a photo is sickening,” she told PA.

“I’ve never seen a movie, especially not these days, that explores the harmful side of our society.

Director Michael Mohan said he was “elated to bring back the erotic thriller genre” with Voyeurs.

“We live in a strange age where it’s perfectly socially acceptable to look into the lives of complete strangers by looking at the groomed and cultivated version of life, they want us to think they’re leading. With ‘The Voyeurs’ we ask a simple question: is it okay to watch?’, he told Variety.
