Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas reveals she ‘almost QUIT judging panel after just one season because the show invaded her private life but her doting mother convinced her to continue’
Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas nearly quit her role as head judge after just one season due to the “stress of nighttime fame,” according to reports.
The 61-year-old star replaced Len Goodman in 2017, but left the coveted position nearly a year later, explaining: “The mainstream fame given to you by shows like Strictly is quite hard to deal with,” reports The sun.
But after talking to her beloved mother Audrey, 84, she “finally decided it would be good to do it again.”
Tough decision: Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas, 61, nearly quit her role as head judge after just one season due to the ‘stress of nighttime fame’, according to reports
According to the paper, Shirley explained, “You have to be resilient when people start writing or saying unkind things about you.
“When the producers asked me a second time, I asked my mother if she thought it was a good idea. It is drastic for your private life.’
Shirley also revealed that she wanted to take on the role in an effort to take a stand against bullying in the industry.
“To change that drove me to go for the track,” the star explained.

It comes after Shirley revealed it’s “still important” for her to feel sexy — and that Horlicks and sex is her favorite bedtime ritual.
Shirley, who is currently dating actor Danny Taylor, 49, described her ideal nighttime set-up for The Sun.
“I’d want Horlicks AND sex. Lots of Horlicks and sex – or a little Horlicks and lots of sex. My Danny just left this morning, we had a great weekend together. There were many Horlicks. It was beautiful,’ she revealed.

And Shirley admitted that because she “prefers to like her legs,” she won’t hesitate to wear a few short dresses this year.
Shirley insisted that she likes to stay “age-appropriate” and will not adopt “sheep dressed as lamb” style.
‘I’m not a lamb anymore, but I still have enough sauce. Look at Amanda Holden. She looks great at 50. But I’m 61 and believe me, those ten or eleven years make a huge difference,” she said.
