Shrewsbury Town striker Ryan Bowman was taken to hospital on Saturday after suffering palpitations during his team’s 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town.

Bowman was substituted 35 minutes into the game at Portman Road, with the team doctor finding that his heart rate was 250 beats per minute.

The 29-year-old was assessed by medical personnel and was then sent to a local medical facility for further check-ups.

After the game, Shrewsbury manager Steve Cotterill revealed he hoped the club could provide a further update later on Saturday night.

As reported by Sky Sports, Cotterill said: “He had palpitations.

“The doctor said his heart was pounding at 250 beats per minute or something.

We just hope we get a little bit more of an update [later on].’

Bowman had previously been with Exeter but joined Shrewsbury in June and signed a two-year contract.

He has played eleven games for the club so far, scoring once.

Ipswich took the lead on Saturday through Conor Chaplin, with Shaun Whalley equalizing for Shrewsbury.

Striker Macauley Bonne, who has been in impressive form lately, then scored the winner for Ipswich in the 54th minute.

After the game, Shrewsbury is in 23rd place in League One, while Ipswich is in 14th place.
