Elaborate grazing shelves full of cured meats and colorful fruit became a fixture in Sydney’s parks during the city’s latest lockdown.

But one woman marked the end of nearly four months of shutdown by giving her friends a grotesque take on the picnic trend — made entirely from pasta.

A video on TikTok shows the creative chef covering a table with aluminum foil before throwing spaghetti over it and smothering it with three kinds of sauce.

“Yesterday pasta night with the girls!” she wrote in the caption.

The now viral clip, which has been viewed 319,000 times since it was uploaded online on Wednesday, sparked shock, with horrified viewers eager to know where the inspiration came from.

‘You could have literally done that on your own plate. Put pasta on each plate and everyone chooses their own sauce,” wrote one woman.

Another said, ‘Why don’t you just put it in three large serving bowls, something classy?’

Others criticized the woman for mixing dishes that don’t match.

‘Mmm, pasta mixed with different sauces and the taste of aluminum foil. Hmmm!’ said one, while a second said, “But they touch?”

But some were more concerned about an alleged food safety issue.

‘Acid food and aluminum foil is a big NO. Aluminum is significantly more likely to leach into food,” one woman wrote.

While it is true that aluminum is absorbed into food when cooked in aluminum foil or with aluminum cookware and is enhanced in acidic foods, it is not true that it causes health effects in healthy adults.

According to research by the European Food Safety Authority, your body absorbs less than 1 percent of the background aluminum in food or drinking water.
