Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they have had to postpone their wedding several times.

And Sarah Hyland recently revealed that she and her fiancé Wells Adams had to wait “three months” before getting intimate for the first time.

“My fiancé and I couldn’t have sex for three months before we actually did it, just because medically I wasn’t allowed,” the 30-year-old actress explained on the latest episode of Lady Parts for Ellentube.

Speaking to comedian Whitney Cummings, Sarah said she and Wells were taking it easy and that “this long-awaited game was really, really sexy.”

The most recent episode of Lady Parts, which focused on “The Joy of Sex,” also featured appearances from model Cara Delevingne and Los Angeles OBGYN Dr. Sherry.

While she didn’t specifically state the medical reason for their initial abstinence, Sarah has spoken openly about undergoing more than a dozen surgeries in recent years.

She suffers from renal dysplasia, a condition that occurs when “the internal structures of one or both of a fetus’s kidneys fail to develop normally in utero,” according to the National Institute of Diabetes And Digestive and Kidney Issues.

Sarah has had two kidney transplants, one of which occurred around the beginning of her and Wells’ relationship in the second half of 2017.

The other took place in 2012, where the actress’s father gave her one of his kidneys.

In an interview with Self, it was first revealed that in 2016 Sarah’s body had “started rejecting her father’s kidney,” leading to her being on dialysis in February 2017.

She also had to have a port implanted in her to connect to the dialysis machine.

Because dialysis was not enough to counteract the effects of the rejected kidney, Sarah underwent her second kidney transplant in September 2017. The kidney was donated by her younger brother Ian.

The Modern Family star has also openly struggled with endometriosis, which is when the uterine lining begins to grow outside the uterus.

Wells was an important support system for Sarah, with the star often gushing about her doting partner on social media.

After dating for less than two years, Adams proposed to Hyland in July 2019.

Unfortunately, their initial plans to get married in August 2020 were thwarted by COVID-19. With the pandemic still continuing, Sarah and Wells have indefinitely postponed their wedding.

“Of course we were going to get married last year, that didn’t happen. We were supposed to get married this year, that didn’t happen,” the hunk Bachelor Nation said in an interview with People last August.

“So now we’re hoping next year, either we go to Vegas, or the courthouse, I don’t know — well, we’re not going to do those last two things, but I don’t know. 2022 must be our year, right?!

“We’re going to do it all over again, we’re going on a fun vacation to where we’re engaged, we’re going to reschedule the whole engagement party, we’re going to re-plan our bachelor and bachelorette parties, we’re going to sort of, start a new one around the to do wedding things.’
