Up to 20 sex offenders live near the site where the missing child Cleo Smith was last seen when police investigated the sound of ‘screeching’ tires campers claimed to have heard in the middle of the night.
Assistant Commissioner Darryl Gaunt said police are not ruling out anything as the search for the missing four-year-old enters its fifth day.
Cleo disappeared in the early hours of Saturday morning from the Blowholes campground near Carnarvon, on WA’s remote northwest coast.

“We haven’t ruled it out (the car sounds) or in, it’s a bit baseless, but we’re not ruling it out,” he told 6PR Radio on Wednesday.
‘We have a lot of information from people inside or nearby.
“They have reported certain noises or activities — most of them have been explained.”
He added that there are “between 10 and 20” known sex offenders in the Carnarvon area, but investigations have revealed no suspects in Cleo’s disappearance.
“We’re not worried about that,” he told 6PR Mornings.
“I know that part of the research strategies involved reaching out and investigating their whereabouts and movements, and right now we’re very comfortable with those studies.”
Assistant Commissioner Gaunt said detectives had received information from people “from all over the world.”
