Olivia Colman of The Crown will join the cast of the upcoming Willy Wonka origin story along with Rowan Atkinson and Sally Hawkins, Variety reported Wednesday.

Timothee Chalamet will star as the titular candy man in Wonka, which will precede the timeline in previous films about the Roald Dahl character.

Produced by Warner Bros., the delightful upcoming movie has completed the cast with funny man Keegan Michael Key recently signing.

How sweet it is: Olivia Colman of The Crown (pictured) will join the cast of the upcoming Willy Wonka origin story along with Rowan Atkinson and Sally Hawkins, Variety reported Wednesday

Wonka will have an all-star cast. While it’s unclear what roles Coleman, Atkinson, and Hawkins will play, it’s clear that the studio is only using A-list talent for the film.

Colman, 47, recently took home another Emmy award for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth in the final season of Netflix’s The Crown.

Atkinson, 66, is best known for playing the awkwardly funny Mr. Bean, but also starred in projects such as Johnny English and Blackadder. Meanwhile, Sally Hawkins, 45, scored an Oscar nod for her role in The Shape of Water.

Details about Wonka are largely kept secret (or, as it were, wrapped up), but Variety reported that filming will begin next Wednesday in London.

The project follows the adventures of young Willy Wonka before he opens his iconic chocolate factory.

The production would feature several musical scenes in which Chalamet will showcase his singing and dancing skills.

It is also believed that this story will show how Wonka first met the Oompa Loompas before building his chocolate factory.

Paul King (Paddington, Paddington 2) will direct Wonka from a script he co-wrote with his Paddington 2 co-writer Simon Farnaby.

The film had gone through a number of previous iterations written by Simon Rich, Simon Stephenson, Jeff Nathanson and Steven Levenson.

David Heyman produces through his Heyday Films, along with Luke Kelly and Alexandra Derbyshire, with Michael Siegel as executive producer.

Warner Bros. first explored the world of Willy Wonka in 1971’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, based on Roald Dahl’s 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, starring Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka.

The studio then put together a more faithful adaptation of the original novel with 2005’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory starring Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka and Freddie Highmore as Charlie Bucket.

The 2005 adaptation was a blockbuster, earning $206.4 million domestically and $474.9 million worldwide on a $150 million budget.

Earlier this month, Netflix bought the entire catalog from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory author Roald Dahl.

The company has not disclosed the financial terms of the deal, giving it full access to Dahl’s works, as well as animated and live-action films.

The deal expands Netflix’s existing licensing agreement with The Roald Dahl Story Co (RDSC) signed in 2018 to create animated series based on the author’s books.

Under the existing deal, the total production budget is $1 billion and includes Jojo Rabbit director, Taika Waititi, who will create a TV series based on the world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and an adaptation of Matilda the Musical.

Netflix has plans for 19 TV shows, movies, shows and live experiences around Dahl’s work.
