Moment ‘migrants’ climb out of parked truck in traffic jam on A2 in Kent at Dartford Crossing

This is the shocking moment as a group of suspected migrants push their way out of a lorry stuck in traffic in Kent.

A fellow truck driver was shocked to see half a dozen men climb out of the parked truck while stuck in traffic on an A2 overpass leading to Dartford Crossing.

It’s because the number of migrants crossing the channel by boat this year is approaching the record-breaking 20,000.

After a deluge of canal crossings over the weekend, the total number of migrants who have arrived in the UK by boat now stands at 19,533 – more than double the 8,410 who arrived last year.

In the incident on the A2, the driver was able to record the moment of driving past.

The video shows a man climbing onto the roof of the truck before lowering himself to the ground.

A second hooded man can also be seen jumping down before they both run off the truck over a grassy berm.

A third man then jumps off the truck and then appears to sit back to help others before the footage breaks down, but the driver who filmed the incident said at least six people left the vehicle as he drove past.

The footage was taken when he was stuck in stationary traffic in line for the Dartford Crossing, while the other truck in the hard shoulder had stopped with its hazard lights on.

The 27-year-old driver of class 1 trucks said: ‘I saw six or seven people climbing out of the curtain, but I couldn’t get them all on film.

‘Because of the crossing, I was in heavy traffic. The other driver was pulled into the emergency lane.

“It was shocking. I contacted the police, but they had already had several calls.’

The incident took place on Friday, October 15 at around 4.30 pm.

The truck appears to have an international license plate with three letters and three numbers – an order used by several European countries, including Lithuania and Finland.

A Kent Police spokesman said: “Kent Police were called at 4.34pm on Friday 15 October 2021 to say that a group of people, believed to be migrants, had been seen getting out of a lorry onto the A2 near Bean.

“Agents arrived on the scene and spoke to the driver of the truck.

A search was also carried out in the area, but no persons were found.

“The details have been passed on to the Ministry of the Interior, which is the lead agency for immigration matters.”

A total of 19,533 have so far made the treacherous 21-mile journey in 2021 – more than double the 8,410 that arrived last year.

This year’s figure surpassed the milestone of 19,000 on Saturday, when 410 migrants were rescued or intercepted by Border Force in 11 boats.

On Sunday, 102 people followed in three boats.

And despite the harsh weather conditions that made the journey across the Straits of Dover even more dangerous, 294 migrants arrived in 10 boats on Monday.

The interior ministry, which only released details about the crossings late Monday night, said French authorities prevented 482 migrants from making the dangerous journey in 17 incidents in the same three-day period.

Border forces were seen using huge boats Valiant and Hurricane to bring intercepted migrants to Dover Marina, Kent on Monday.

Dozens of men wearing orange life jackets, thick winter coats and red wool hats to fight the cold were seen from the ship.

There were also young children on board, including a girl about seven years old wearing a silver reflective jacket.

The migrants were escorted to the aisle by the Immigration Service for processing.

A boatload of about 30 migrants managed to land on the pebble in Dungeness, Kent, on Sunday.

Due to stormy weather at sea, no crossings are expected today/yesterday (TUE).

A total of 2,460 migrants in 83 boats have arrived so far in October.

Dan O’Mahoney, Clandestine Channel Threat Commander, said:**”The Government is committed to addressing the unacceptable increase in dangerous Channel crossings using all the resources at our disposal, at every stage of the journey.

“The government’s new immigration plan provides a long-term solution to fix the broken system and bring about the change needed to tackle criminal gangs and prevent further loss of life.”

According to the National Crime Agency, the most common clandestine ways for migrants to enter the UK are in trucks or other commercial vehicles transported by rail or ferry, in commercial sea containers.

Organized gangs often smuggle people in hard-sided trucks, while more opportunistic smuggling takes place in soft-sided trucks.

Migrants are at significant personal risk in most modes of transport.

In October 2019, 39 Vietnamese migrants suffocated in the back of a truck shortly after the truck arrived on a ferry from Zeebrugge, Belgium.
