Modern Italian restaurant makes creamy pasta in a JAR – but not everyone is convinced
- A modern Italian restaurant has split the internet after making pasta in a pot
- Barkly’s Kitchen in Melbourne filled glass jars with creamy cheese spread
- New menu items will be available once dinner in Victoria reopens
- Many said the jars look ‘messy’, ‘hard to eat’ and ‘super clunky’
A modern Italian restaurant has split foodies on social media after making what is believed to be Australia’s first-ever pasta in a pot.
Barkly’s Kitchen in Melbourne’s Brunswick shared a TikTok video showing glass jars filled to the brim with creamy pasta oozing with cheese.
The new menu items will be served to customers once dinner reopens across Victoria – as the state remains under lockdown orders due to rising Covid cases.
‘Our pasta pots are cheesier and they are also baked, which gives a real kick. The best thing about our pasta in a pot is that it stays warm until the end of your last bite,” Rajan, owner of Barkly’s Kitchen, told Daily Mail Australia.

While many are skeptical of the new creation, Rajan said don’t stop using it until you’ve tried it.
“There’s a lot more to these pasta pots that people would like to know more about,” he said.
He said the pasta pots come in three different flavors — green pesto (vegetarian), cream-chicken-mushroom, and Barkly’s special — red pesto with chicken and bacon.
While many applauded the restaurant for its “innovative idea,” others found the pasta pots “messy,” “hard to eat,” and “super clunky.”
“This is so embarrassing Melbourne,” someone joked.
‘Let’s put pasta that is normally served in a bowl in a pot for no reason at all. Why? Yes No. Pass,” wrote another.
One said: ‘Don’t hate, but I wonder what the benefit is to the pots? That makes sense for milkshakes because you fit more in them.’
Another asked, ‘Is this a joke? The pasta is delicious, would love to eat it… from a bowl’, while one joked: ‘And you get your garlic bread served in a shoe.’
Many were divided over the pasta pots, with a man jokingly the restaurant also serves garlic bread in a shoe. In a follow-up video to TikTok, the restaurant responded to critics by serving garlic bread in a worn-out sneaker

“You asked, we delivered,” the cheeky caption read.
The video shows freshly baked garlic bread served in a shoe, while another clip shows an employee dancing with the dish in question.
Many soon saw the funny side, with one woman saying, “Okay, I respect you… I’ll eat your pasta in the pot.”
While another said, ‘Oh my god, this is the best. I’m definitely going to try your pasta in a jar.’
