Pep Guardiola appears to have taken the win in his quest for five substitutions allowed in the remainder of the Carabao Cup.

At the time, insiders said the chances of success were limited.

However, it is clear that City have now managed to gain support from 13 of the 16 clubs still in the tournament.

At City’s urging, they have now all written to the EFL to make their feelings clear and, while discussions are underway, it looks like Pep’s plan is getting the green light.

With pressure mounting, the EFL will speak to the two parties that do not support the city manager’s position to gauge their views.

But with such overwhelming support, their stance could well change ahead of the next round of games on October 26 and 27.

Guardiola is in a strong position. Unlike some top rivals, the Catalan – admittedly blessed with a large roster – is known for taking the League Cup seriously.

And some believe that making the change would give those in the top flight an unfair advantage over clubs lower in the pecking order that remain in the league.

But with the vast majority in favour, the additions are now likely.
