Jack Sullivan, from Chelsmford, Essex, nam Twitter and posted a photo of the three gifts he had bought for his partner: a bouquet of roses, Thornton’s chocolates and a box of Tampax.

Alongside the trio of gifts, he left a cheeky handwritten note that read, “The chocolates are because I love you. The flowers are because I’m sorry. The Tampax is because I’m still not sure why I’m apologizing, so I think you’re going to need this every day now.”

It didn’t take long for social media users to jump to the comment section – with one joke: ‘How was the couch to sleep on? Comfortable?’

“I’ll be the bigger man and apologize…If you can call it that!”

But while some people were hysterical by the gesture, others felt outraged.

“Really apologize if you say ‘I’m not sure why I’m apologizing’ and suggest it’s not necessary because menstruation/PMS = overreaction,” one said.

A second raged, “I thought it was cute until I got to the tampon part…it’s 2021 and you guys are still rejecting your girlfriend’s emotions for the menstrual prank?” Pathetic,” while a third added, “I hope she wraps those roses around your head.”

Meanwhile, a fourth asked, “Can men use their brains and stop thinking that when a woman is sad, upset, irritable or angry, she should either be on or on their period, like we’re literally feeling those things all the time.”

Another irate social media user commented, “Do you still find this sort of thing funny? I don’t ‘wake up’, it just died.’

Others, however, saw a more light-hearted side to the Tweet, which has been shared over 27,000 times and garnered thousands of comments.

‘This is quality! This is what it’s tweeting about!’ wrote one, while a second added, “Brave man,” followed by a smiling emoji.

Another joked, “You’ll be carrying the flowers, the chocolates will be in the dog, and I hate to say where she’ll fill the tampax.”
