A collision between a lorry and a car on the M25 left three people seriously injured in hospital and led to a 10-hour lockdown that could spill over into the evening rush hour.

The M25 was closed clockwise from Junction 10 at the A3 Wisley Interchange to Junction 11 at the A320 St Peters Way following the crash, which happened at around 3.30am today.

Three people were taken to hospital with serious injuries after the incident, police said.

National Highways, formerly known as Highways England, wrote that all four lanes of the M25 were closed clockwise after the crash.

Traffic England’s website, part of National Highways, said the accident and the closure were expected to be resolved between 5.15pm and 5.30pm, meaning the motorway could be closed until evening rush hour.

The National Highways: South-East Twitter page posted at 3:21 am today that the M25 clockwise between Junction 10, Wisley and Junction 11, Chertsey, was closed ‘due to an RTC’.

Traffic wardens and emergency services attended the scene to resolve the situation.

Motorists faced miles of queues throughout the day, with delays of around 60 minutes on the clockwise lane.

At 1:22 p.m., National Highways announced that both vehicles involved in the incident had been brought to the emergency lane by traffic officers and that “all lanes 3 and 4 are now clear.”

But at 1.51pm they added that the M25 was ‘still closed from Junctions 10 #Wisley to Junction 11 #Chersey’ while damage to the crash barriers and carriageway was being addressed.

A Surrey Police spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘We were called to Junction 10 on the M25 at around 3.30am this morning (October 12) following reports of a collision between a car and a lorry.

“Three people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries and all four lanes are currently closed. We advise people to avoid the area if possible.’
