Liverpool are interested in moving to much-in-demand AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie this summer, according to reports.

Kessie is entering the final 12 months of his contract and there have been questions about his long-term future with the San Siro.

And the uncertainty has put a number of clubs on red, with La Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy claiming that Liverpool are keeping an eye on the talented 24-year-old.

A dispute over the wages submitted by Milan is believed to have brought negotiations over a new deal for Kessie to an impasse.

The former Atalanta man currently earns around €2.2 million (£1.9 million) a season, but Milan would be open to raising the figure to €4 million (£3.4 million) to avoid him leaves.

However, no agreement has yet been reached with Kessie’s representatives who are reportedly demanding closer to €6million (£5.1million) – and this deadlock could spell the Ivorian exit.

The same report adds that while Kessie could ultimately choose to renew with Milan, the player has no shortage of admirers from across Europe.

Liverpool would be particularly interested in a swooping, and confrontation talks between Kessie and his club next week could clarify the situation.

After Georginio Wijnaldum left Anfield on a free transfer to join Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool are looking to bring in a new midfielder.

Boss Jurgen Klopp would have preferred Wijnaldum to have stayed on Merseyside, but the Holland international’s contract was allowed to expire instead.

Their rumors about Kessie may help them find an ideal replacement, but Milan hopes to finally sort out their star’s future in the coming weeks.

Milan technical director Paolo Maldini last week insisted that Kessie remains firmly in the club’s plans for next season.

“Franck Kessie will stay because he is part of our future,” he told reporters. “We’re in the process of renewing his contract.”

Kessie, meanwhile, is fully focused on representing his country at the Tokyo Olympics, which are now officially underway.

His campaign in Japan also got off to a perfect start, after taking home the winner in Ivory Coast’s 2-1 win against Saudi Arabia.
