Jake Gyllenhaal headlines World War II superhero film Prophet, starring Sam Hargrave
Jake Gyllenhaal is the headliner of a new superhero movie called Prophet, in which he will play the title role of director Sam Hargrave.
The 40-year-old Los Angeles native appears in the film as John Prophet, who has superpowers after being subjected to experiments by the Germans in World War II.
Marc Guggenheim will adapt the screenplay of the film from Rob Liefeld’s comic book, produced by Studio 8.

“It’s been a goal of ours for some time to work with Jake and Sam, so we’re really excited to finally be working with them on this unique, action-packed genre film,” Studio 8 CEO Jeff Robinov told The Hollywood Reporter . in a statement.
He continued, “I’m looking forward to seeing what they envision to bring this story to life — one that we’re sure will stand out in the comic book world as a powerful, emotionally charged and visually distinctive film.”
The Oscar-nominated actor has a number of high-profile projects up his sleeve, including his current Netflix film The Guilty, as well as a role in director Michael Bay’s Ambulance.
The storyline of the film shows the prophet reawakening in 1965 after a 20-year funeral, in which he has to deal with KGB agents after him and a bad relationship with his daughter.

Extraction director Sam Hargrave (pictured in LA in 2019) leads the filmmaking process
It’s a return to the comic book genre for Gyllenhaal, who appeared as Mysterio in the 2019 film Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Hargrave, who last year collaborated on the successful Chris Hemsworth film Extraction, will direct the sequel.
He was also the stunt coordinator for a number of high profile films, including Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War and Captain America: Civil War.
