Jack Wilshere has revealed he is open to Derby in the January transfer window after turning down an offer to play for Wayne Rooney in the summer.

The 29-year-old has been a free agent since being released from Championship side Bournemouth late last season.

Wilshere recently trained with his former team Arsenal after spending some time with Serie B team Como in Italy.

And he says that Rooney asked him to go to Pride Park in the summer.

Wilshere said, “I did speak to Wazza over the summer. When Derby was under that embargo, they couldn’t buy anyone.

“And instead I went to Como too. And I thought about it, but it wasn’t for me.’

talkSPORT’s Andy Goldstein then pressed Wilshere on his future plans and asked if he would now be open to a move to Derby.

Wilshere recently trained at Arsenal and hopes to find a club to continue his playing career

Wilshere replied, “I don’t know, it depends what comes in January.”

He also spoke about his game with Bournemouth in the Championship last season.

“Last year I played in the championship and I really enjoyed it. It’s a tough competition. I don’t think it suited my playing style.’

Wilshere made his name at Arsenal, where he became their youngest debutant at the age of 16, playing 198 appearances for the club.

He left the club in 2018 after injuries severely impacted his career.
