Howie Mandel said the aftereffects of a recent colonoscopy led to an incident in which he passed out Wednesday at a Starbucks in Woodland Hills, California.

The 65-year-old America’s Got Talent personality was drinking coffee with his wife and friends when he passed out while on site, and was eventually rushed by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

He opened up about the incident Thursday on his podcast Howie Mandel Does Stuff with his daughter Jackelyn Shultz, 37.

The latest: Howie Mandel, 65, said the aftereffects of a recent colonoscopy led to an incident in which he passed out on Wednesday at a Starbucks in Woodland Hills, California.

“I was dehydrated,” Mandel said. “I had a colonoscopy a few days ago. You take a sip and you empty.’

Mandel said he had “consensual diarrhea all night” because he “took something that gives you consensual diarrhea and was…dehydrated as a result.”

Mandel said he went back to work too soon and had taken too much caffeine, factors that led to him passing out.

“The moment I woke up from the colonoscopy, I was working,” he said. ‘I did Logan Paul’s podcast and then I did’ [another] podcasting. And I was basically just living on coffee and caffeine, which also exacerbates dehydration, I was told… apparently you pass out at Starbucks if you do that.”

Mandel said he “got very dizzy and couldn’t get up” during the incident, but he believes he remained conscious the entire time.

“I’m all soaked with sweat,” Mandel said. “For someone who is dehydrated, I had a lot of sweat inside me. And before I knew it I was surrounded by the fire brigade and then they took me to the hospital, they did all those tests on my heart.’

On Wednesday night, Mandel gave an update on his condition to fans, assuring them he was fine after becoming dehydrated and having low blood sugar.

He wrote: ‘I’m home and I’m doing better. I was dehydrated and had low blood sugar. I appreciate the wonderful doctors and nurses who took such good care of me. Thanks to everyone who contacted me, but I’m fine!’

In June, he told People he was “living in a nightmare” because of the repetitive and intrusive thoughts that arise from his condition.

“I’m trying to anchor myself. I have a beautiful family and I love what I do. But at the same time, I can fall into a dark depression that I can’t get out of,” he explained.

He added how much comedy got him through the dark times, telling the magazine, “Comedy saved me in a way. I feel most comfortable on stage. And if I have nothing to do, I turn in – and that’s no good.’
