Ilic – signed by City from Red Star Belgrade in 2017 – has returned to the Etihad Stadium on the completion of his loan term and has entered the final 12 months of his contract with the Premier League champions.
After signing a deal of around £2million for City, Ilic returned to Red Star on a two-year loan, before sealing another temporary move to fellow Serbian outfit FK Zemun in 2019.
Shortly after, a loan spell to the Dutch NAC Breda followed, prior to his move to Verona for the 2020-21 season.
He has entered the final year of his contract with City and has yet to play for Pep Guardiola’s side
Not only has Ilic gained lent experience, but has also spent time in the development system with his brother Luka on the Etihad Campus, but he has yet to make his City debut.
Serbian U23 international Luka was loaned out to FC Twente again earlier this summer, after scoring twice in 24 games for the Eredivisie outfit in the 2020-21 season.
Younger brother Ivan, meanwhile, made his senior Serbia debut on June 7 in a friendly against Jamaica, while his other cap came in defeat to Japan four days later.
Ilic will team up with Eusebio Di Francesco when he returns to Verona, with the former Roma boss replacing Croatian manager Ivan Juric, who has come to Torino.
