An ‘X-rated’ house known as ‘Willy House’ in the former village of Frankie Howerd, with a series of ‘phallic’ topiary trees in the garden, is up for sale for £1million.

The property in the quiet village of Cross, near Axbridge in Somerset, has been drawing attention for over 20 years with its phallus-shaped greenery.

Rising above the Mendip Hills in Bristol, a village where Carry-On star Frankie Howerd once lived, the property is up for sale for £925,000.

What an entrance: the 200-year-old topiary trees stand in the front garden of the five-bedroom property in Cross, near Axbridge in Somerset

There are seven topiary trees in the front yard of the property, and schoolchildren in the area have aptly named the house the 'Willy House'.

The 17th-century house features four individual double bedrooms and a one-bedroom cottage in the front yard that may provide income through Airbnb, or may provide home office or studio facilities.

But the eye-catchers are the 200-year-old topiary yew trees that adorn the landscaped front garden and give the detached house the nickname ‘Willy House’.

The foyer features a fireplace insert and cast iron stove, with a hidden unused staircase behind stripped pine doors.

In the kitchen is an Aga stove with granite counters, which overlooks the backyard and views of the Mendip Hills.

Peter Knife, who owns the two-acre property, previously said he has no idea how the hedges were formed, but has had no complaints.

A few years ago the grandfather of three said: ‘I have lived in the house with my wife for 20 years and it has always been known as the ‘willy house’ by children who attend a school nearby.

‘I don’t care in the least.

‘I’ve also seen people walk past my house and ask me how I maintain my hedges so well.

“I wind them up and tell them I put Viagra in the roots.”

In a listing on their website, real estate agents Cooper and Tanner labeled the home “a unique landmark in this rural community.”

They added: ‘The beautiful 200 year old topiary yew trees that adorn the landscaped front garden, and the elegant pale yellow façade, belies a welcoming interior with old ‘farmhouse’ warmth and charm, and an abundance of original features.

‘These impressive trees in the landscaped front yard are a unique landmark in this rural community.

“They create a striking vision and frame the path to the front door. On either side are lawns with well-stocked flower beds and borders.
