Victor Strand threw survivor Will off a building killing and turning him into a zombie during the shocking season premiere Sunday of Fear The Walking Dead on AMC.

The season seven premiere titled The Beacon showed how much Strand [Colman Domingo] had changed after the second apocalypse caused by madman Teddy detonating a nuclear missile from a submarine.

The episode started with Will [Gus Halper] who had stayed alive by scavenging for food through the bleak landscape of burning destruction.

The daily struggle to find non-radioactive food and water took its toll on Will and he was ready to give up. He was all alone in the forest and about to let a zombie eat him when a shot rang out.

A group of three men approached and said ‘let’s go’ as they grabbed him. They took him to their compound, ripped off his clothes and proceeded to hose him down and decontaminate him.

‘What the hell is going on?,’ Will asked when they put him in an elevator after giving him fresh clothes to put on.

Will tried to get away from them and ran away into an apartment filled with antiques. He grabbed a sword and then Strand put a gun to his head and took the sword away from him.

Victor had someone bring Will food, a plate of pasta, and Howard [Omid Abtahi] poured him some scotch. Victor sat down at the table and asked him his name and what he did before the Apocalypse. He told them his name was Will and that he worked for a senator as his press secretary. He said he hunkered down with the senator during the blast in a bunker but that things went bad.

He told them he had seen ‘stalkers’ stripping the dead. Victor wanted to know who they were, but Will didn’t know. Will asked him when was the last time he was outside.

Victor told him he had everything he needed inside his complex. He gave Will a tour of his Tower where everything looked almost idyllic — people were doing yoga, taking an art class, and playing miniature golf.

He let people stay, Victor told Will, ‘if they are of value.’

Will then saw a bulletin board full of pictures of dead walkers. Will asked if there was anyone Victor was hoping to find. Victor told him again that he had everything he needed in the Tower complex.

He then walked him to the roof of the building where there were vegetables growing. Victor told him the building was empty when he arrived except for Howard.

Howard told Will they were laying the foundations of a new civilization. He said they were fortunate because the weather pattern directed the fall out from the blast away from them.

‘We are making history,’ said Howard.

Victor then decided to kick Will out because he said he didn’t share his vision. Will begged to stay. As he collected his belongings, Will gave Victor a necklace he found outside and said he was going to need it more than him.

‘Stop, where did you find this?,’ Victor asked.

Will said he found it on one of the dead. He said he thought it would bring him good luck. Victor asked him if he could take him to where he found it and Will said ‘maybe.’ Victor said he would make him a deal that if he would help him find the wearer of the necklace that he would let him stay in the compound.

Then he traveled on horseback to where Will found the necklace. Victor asked him why he didn’t go back to the bunker. He said he wasn’t welcome.

It started to rain and Will said they needed to take cover. He directed him to the underground car park where Will’s van was parked. Will then turned to Victor and asked him what they were really doing out here.

‘How come you are out here looking for her,’ asked Will

Victor said that he never told Will that he was looking for a woman. He told his guards that he believed they had been lured out under ‘false pretenses.’ He demanded that Will tell him ‘where is she.’

Will was shot in the leg. Victor grabbed him and threw him in the van as zombies approached, grabbed and started eating Victor’s guards.

Victor then looked around the van and said he realized where Alicia was and didn’t need Will anymore. Will said he knew Alicia and she wouldn’t forgive him for leaving him. Will wanted to know why Victor was so determined to see her.

‘I want to show her she was wrong about everything,’ said Victor .

Victor ran out and left Will in the van. Victor rode his horse to the lighthouse to look for Alicia. Inside, he found a map inside that showed the route to the Franklin Hotel.

‘Bingo,’ said Victor.

Will appeared armed with a gun just when Victor was about to leave. Will told him to sit down and to start answering his questions. Victor wanted to know first why he lied to him and Will said because Alicia told him that he wasn’t trustworthy. Will told him he was testing him to see if he was worth saving.

He asked Victor if he really thought showing Alicia his Tower community would change her opinion of him. Will told Victor that Alicia was locked up by the ‘psycho that dropped the bombs on us.’ He said Alicia taught him that if you want people to believe in you that you have to believe in them. Will asked Victor to give him back the medallion.

Victor told Will that he gave Alicia that medallion so she could remember who she was ‘because I feared I wouldn’t be able to do the same for myself.’

He asked Will why he wasn’t with Alicia. Will told Victor that Alicia wanted him to do something, but he didn’t do it. He thought maybe if he brought Victor to her that maybe she would let him back in. Then Will said after what he saw today that he didn’t think she would even recognize Victor.

Victor then grabbed Will. The two fought, but Will grabbed the gun. Will then opened the door to the lighthouse and stood there as zombies approached. Victor pulled him back inside.

Will then told him he knew the zombies and that they were from the bunker.

‘Something bad must have happened,’ Will said.

‘Alicia,’ said Victor.

Will stared out the window and said he didn’t understand how this could have happened. He said there were enough supplies at the bunker to last for years. Will then used diesel fuel to start up the lighthouse using the light to distract the zombies. He yelled at them from above to follow the light. Victor went out to fight the zombies and then the light went out. Will then went out to fight with him.

Victor asked him why helped him. Will told him he knew that he still cared about Alicia and told him he would take him to the hotel.

The two rode on a horse to the Franklin hotel, which looked almost demolished. They entered the bunker under the hotel that was deserted.

‘It’s a ghost town,’ said Victor.

Will told him that 120 people lived here but Teddy’s scouts came and killed everyone when he was doing maintenance in the servant’s quarters.

Will called out for Alicia and there was no answer. They turned the power on. There was a painting on the wall that looked like a picture of Alicia following Victor. There was also a note addressed to Will taped to the podium in the room. Will grabbed it and it said only ‘Padre.’

Victor asked him what ‘Padre’ meant and Will said he really didn’t know. He said maybe it is the possibility of something better. Will told him he should have been in the bunker when things went wrong.

‘You loved her,’ said Victor.

‘It doesn’t matter,’ said Will. ‘It’s all for nothing.’

Victor told him he needed Alicia, too. Will said maybe they were supposed to find her together. They then got on Victor’s horse and rode off. They dragged the lighthouse light back with them to shine it and rigged it to shine from the top of the Tower compound.

The light attracted zombies who gathered around the building. Will told Victor that Alicia would see the light and find this place.

‘Alicia is the closest thing I have to family, Will,’ said Victor. ‘You’re not the only one who loves her. I never had the chance to tell her but I would have if we found her.’

Victor told Will that attachments don’t make people stronger. Will then asked if the light wasn’t to draw in Alicia.

‘No, it is to keep her and everyone else as far as possible,’ said Victor.

Will told him it won’t work and that Alicia will find a way to get through. Victor then grabbed Will and threw him off the roof.

Howard told him the light would draw more than the dead but Victor said he wasn’t worried. He noted that if anyone tried to get to him they would have to get through the crowd of zombies that surrounded the building.
