David Beckham appeared to be in good spirits while filming his grassroots football documentary at London’s Mile End Stadium on Thursday.

First spotted on set, the 46-year-old star turned onlookers’ heads as she watched a team of kids play for the Disney+ series Save Our Squad.

He went on to mentor the youngsters and chat with his fellow spectators while looking trendy in a stone jacket paired with black jeans.

Co-produced by Twenty Twenty and David’s production outfit Studio 99, the series follows David returning to the East London fields where he played as a child and guiding a young squad struggling to survive in their league.

Cameramen followed the former Manchester United player’s every move, including a sweet moment when he warmly placed a hand on the shoulder of a budding footballer.

The former England star will take center stage in the show which focuses on a group of inner-city youngsters from an East London team striving for sporting success.

In March, it was reported that David would star in the Disney+ series, and the casting had already started earlier this week in Hackney Marshes, just two miles from Leytonstone where the sportsman grew up.

A source told The Sun: “David was approached by Disney+ about making the show and he was very impressed with the idea as it really reflects his own experiences growing up. Moreover, he is still so committed to young talent in the game.

“Disney thought David was an ideal mentor for the group. He came out of nowhere to become one of the best football players and most famous people in the world.

“It was a huge coup for Disney to get David on board. For him, it’s about sharing his passion for the game and helping these young people as much as possible.’

Filming for the series is thought to have been delayed due to the Covid pandemic, but production is expected to resume this summer.
