Daley Blind’s father Danny argues with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over Manchester United’s lack of identity
Danny Blind has attacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, claiming his Manchester United team has no identity and is far too passive.
The Red Devils start the season with 10 points out of 12 in the Premier League, beating Leeds and Newcastle aside.
However, since then they have won just two of their six games in all competitions, including two defeats and a draw in their last four games at Old Trafford.

Holland’s assistant coach has reprimanded the Manchester United boss for not having a clear strategy
Blind, the father of former United midfielder Danny and now in his second stint as an assistant coach of the Netherlands under Louis van Gaal, was less than impressed, offering a scathing assessment of Solskjaer’s ability to grow the team.
‘What is the identity of this team? What’s his plan?’ he asked. “It’s exactly what Solskjaer lacks.
“There is no tactical plan. His team is unable to put pressure on their opponents like Manchester City.
“It doesn’t always have to be busy, but we don’t see it – everything in the United team is based on the individual qualities of players.
“They have those qualities and it often produces a result for the team. But it is never a team result. It didn’t look good in some games. United struggle to be dominant – that’s the whole problem.’
This lack of consistency was most recently seen in the frustrating 1-1 draw with Everton, when Anthony Martial’s hard-hitting opener was canceled when a quick counter-attack was finished off by Andros Townsend as the hosts struggled to force themselves on the side. fudge .
United’s most recent game saw them squander a lead against Everton at Old Trafford
Blind continued: “After they took the lead against Everton, they started waiting for their own half.
“They want to score on the counter, but that’s not good enough for a club like Manchester United.
“The next thing you see is how they struggle to turn the game around when Everton equalized. They hardly created any chances.
The Red Devils lost at home to Aston Villa and West Ham prior to signing with the Toffees
‘The results are not good. They lost to Young Boys, to West Ham in the cup, to Aston Villa and they were lucky against Villarreal because of the quality of Ronaldo. Another draw against Everton. And they just got away with that result. It has to be better and it can be better.’
Solskjaer’s association with the club dates back to 1996 when he was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson.
The striker went on to score 126 goals in 366 games, including a dramatic winner in the 1999 Champions League final when he also took six Premier League titles and two FA Cups.
Solskjaer’s side also came loose against Young Boys, only just beeping past Villarreal
Solskjaer returned to The Theater of Dreams in December 2018 as agent after Jose Mourinho’s resignation, before being appointed permanent boss the following summer.
However, his time at the helm has been up and down and he has yet to win a trophy in charge of the English giants.
Blind firmly believes Solskjaer’s reputation at United has given him time in difficult times.
Solskjaer scored 126 goals for United – including a 1999 Champions League final winner
“We cannot say that Solskjaer has had a long career with… [the] top level as manager for United.
‘Yes, he was champion in Norway. But that’s another level. I know why he gets more time than other coaches, he’s a kid of the club.
“He scored that legendary goal in 1999 that helped them win the Champions League. But all that is not enough for what is now being produced.’
Solskjaer has failed to win a major trophy since his first game as United leader in 2018
Blind also believes that the sensational return of Cristiano Ronaldo has upset the balance of the team.
“You’re not going to change Cristiano’s way of thinking and his approach to the game.
So Solskjaer will have to come up with a style of play for his team in which Cristiano can still flourish and the team can still put pressure on the opponent.
Blind believes Cristiano Ronaldo’s lack of off-the-ball running is a problem for the team
“Cristiano has come back and scored some important goals, but his presence in the team requires a different way of thinking tactically.
“Normally you would expect the striker to be the first man to chase the opposition defenders.
“He will run from one defender to another. But the team has lost its orientation. They are not in a confident structure now that Ronaldo is up front.”
Blind believes Solskjaer should not be replaced yet despite a surprising number of defeats
Blind added: “Whatever you think of Solskjaer as a manager, this is not the time to change.
‘They are not far behind in the Premier League’ [they are just two points behind leaders Chelsea], but they’ve lost more games than you’d expect.’
United’s next three games, after the international break, will see them face Leicester and Liverpool in the competition on either side of a crucial home game against Atalanta in Europe.
