In a not-so-subtle way, actress Cynthia Nixon is fueling rumors that her beloved character Miranda Hobbes will come out as gay in the upcoming Sex and the City revival.

Cynthia, 55, was pictured filming an LGBTQ+ rally scene for the new HBO Max spin-off show And Just Like That… in Foley Square, New York City on Sunday.

Fans have speculated about the character’s sexuality from the start of the series, and the topic was explored early in the first season when Miranda posed as a lesbian to get ahead of her law firm.

However, it was Samantha Jones, Kim Cattrall’s character, who would be the first of the four main characters to be in a same-sex relationship when she dated Maria Reyes (played by Sônia Braga) in season four.

Cynthia, who identifies as queer and has been married to her wife Christine Marinoni since 2012, sparked rumors again when she debuted a very different looking version of Miranda this year.

During the protest scene filmed on Sunday, Cynthia was seen roaring with fellow actors as they performed a protest screenplay in support of LGBTQ+ rights.

The scene could be linked in a storyline to Broadway star Sara Ramirez, who will play the new character Che Diaz.

The character has been described as a non-binary, queer, stand-up comedian who hosts a podcast that regularly features Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker).

“Che is a great presenter with a big heart, whose outrageous sense of humor and progressive, human view of gender roles have made them and their podcast very popular,” HBO Max said in a statement this year.
