Cyclist Desiet Kidane Tekeste, 21, killed while training after road accident in Asmara city

Cyclist Desiet Kidane Tekeste has died at the age of 21 in a traffic accident in her home country of Eritrea.
The young cyclist was reportedly training at home in the city of Asmara, Eritrea, when she was hit by a car and died.
Desiet Kidane wanted to stay active in between competitions and built a reputation as a rising star since winning gold in the 2018 Junior African Continental Championship time trial.
News of the 21-year-old’s death quickly brought a wave of tributes with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) leading the way on social media.
The UCI wrote: ‘With her constant smile, kindness, respect and deep passion for cycling, Desiet Kidane Tekeste was an emerging young talent who will be greatly missed.
“Our thoughts are with her family, friends and @WCC_Cycling teammates and coaches at this tragic time.”
In addition, the World Cycling Center (WCC) wrote: ‘We cannot express our sorrow at the passing of 21-year-old UCI WCC athlete, Desiet Kidane Tekeste of Eritrea. We will miss you Desite.’
