Two of Australia’s largest companies have announced they will need their 75,000 employees to get a mandatory Covid vaccine.

Westpac and Commonwealth Bank are demanding that employees who plan to return to their workplace be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.

The mandate covers approximately 75,000 employees across the country, including thousands who currently work at two lenders in the Sydney CBD.

Westpac CEO Peter King said the mandate is necessary to protect the health and safety of both employees and customers.

The bank boss said the mandate was even more important after forecasting the number of Covid cases to rise following the easing of restrictions.
