Coronavirus Australia: People entering Western Australia from SA in Omicron variant deter quarantine

Travelers entering Western Australia from SA are forced to quarantine as Covid ‘fort’ state introduces strict new rules to exclude new super variant Omicron

An Australian state has slammed its border in response to fears over the new Omicron African strain of Covid-19.

Western Australian Prime Minister Mark McGowan has blocked access to people from South Australia amid rising panic over the new strain of the virus and recent cases of Delta in the neighboring state.

“The new variant originated in southern Africa and has now reportedly been discovered in Europe, Asia and the Middle East,” Mr McGowan said.

“Since little is known about the variant, it is important that we exercise extreme caution when dealing with potential spread to WA by overseas travelers arriving in other states.
