Coronavirus Australia: NSW government offers merchants and small business owners road tolls

How thousands of artisans and small business owners can get REFUND for their crippling road tax – here’s how to check if you can pay the toll for free

Thousands of artisans and small business operators whose livelihoods have been crippled by the recent Covid-19 lockdowns have been given the shot in the arm to get back on their feet.

NSW Prime Minister Dominic Perrottet and Treasurer Matt Kean have announced an economic support package for Covid as Sydney and surrounding regions went through 106 long days in lockdown.

Small and medium business operators who are not eligible for payroll taxes can claim up to $2,000 in government taxes and fees, including tolls.

Small business fees and charges were increased from $1500 to $2000 and now include tolls.

“We know this will really support traditional trade in Greater Sydney, which will also gain access to this discount,” Perrottet told reporters on Tuesday.

Mr Kean added: ‘This is the jab they need to get back on track.’

Businesses can also apply for grants of up to $20,000 if a local lockdown prevents them from opening in the summer.

More to come.
