Like many Hollywood stars, Benedict Cumberbatch goes out of his way to be right, including once criticizing the British government in a foul-mouthed diatribe on stage at The Barbican.

He also made a striking appearance at the 2019 Met Gala in an outfit made from vegan silk, which is spun from bamboo, so as not to hurt the feelings of silkworms.

I was therefore relieved to learn that the 45-year-old Sherlock actor has finally stopped doing business with a partner from a family plagued by controversy.

The Old Harrovian was certainly disgusted when he heard the shocking anti-Semitic remarks uttered by the father of his associate Mokhzani Mahathir.

The businessman is the multimillionaire son of former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, who has called Jewish people “hook-nose” and once even questioned the number of deaths in the Holocaust.

Mokhzani was a director of SunnyMarch Holdings – which Cumberbatch founded in 2014 – for many years, investing nearly £1 million in exchange for shares through his company Kencana Capital.

The Oscar nominee, married to opera director Sophie Hunter, claimed more than two years ago that the relationship would end after hearing of the outbursts.

I can tell that Mokhzani resigned as director two years later. He only left two months ago.

The company has achieved great success by co-producing with the BBC the dramas The Pursuit Of Love starring Lily James and Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials starring Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Cumberbatch also starred in many programs produced by the company, including BBC’s The Child In Time and Sky’s Patrick Melrose.

The Duchess of Cambridge has made an unlikely impression on legendary musician Nile Rodgers after she became the new patron of an addiction charity.

“It’s great that she’s showing support for this. Addiction is a very complicated disease,” Rodgers, 69, told David Bowie’s pop-up launch in Heddon Street, London.

The co-founder of disco band Chic, which produced Bowie’s best-selling album Let’s Dance, has battled addiction all his life, but got sober 27 years ago.

The relieved perception of the illness has changed, he adds: “Years ago I went to a psychiatrist here in London and told him I wanted to stop drinking. He said, ‘Oh my God, man, what for?’ ‘

Oscar-winning lyricist Sir Tim Rice is used to putting on a show, but he didn’t expect to be so involved in a performance last week.

The 76-year-old, whose hits include Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita in the West End, and Disney’s The Lion King, took the stage for the official reopening of the Hall for Cornwall theater in Truro.

But as he got closer, he made a tumble before the 1,354-strong crowd.

“It was arguably the highlight of the evening for the audience, except that the debut show for the re-opening of Hall for Cornwall was received even more ecstatically,” he tells me.

Jodie kills them at the cash register

She rose to global superstardom as a stylish hit man in Killing Eve, and now Jodie Comer is about to commit a murder on stage in London.

Tickets to see the 28-year-old in the gritty West End play Prima Facie are almost all gone – even though it won’t open until April and has had 62,000 seats available.

My husband in the wings tells me, “Many of the shows are already pretty much sold out, with only a single seat scattered around the auditorium.”

Theresa May has been knighted!

I can reveal that the former Prime Minister was made a Knight of the Grand Cross of the Order of Saint Agatha during a holiday to San Marino last week.

Maurizio Bragagni, San Marino’s honorary consul, said at a glamorous awards ceremony that she is being honored for her “work as a politician” and for her fight for the small republic, which is landlocked in northern Italy.

Maybe Boris will take note and peerage her here in the UK?

Dame Diana was known as one of the most beautiful and successful actresses of her generation, playing the famous wife of James Bond in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

Choco gone for Harper

Following in her mother’s footsteps! Harper Beckham has a flair for fashion like mama Victoria.

During a trip to a chocolate factory in California, she designed a pink chocolate high-heeled shoe.

Harper said she won’t eat it, but will wear it.

Papa David joined in too, giggling that he was making “chocolate balls.” Referring to his old football nickname, his wife added: ‘Not golden’ [balls]!’
