Chumpy Pullin’s widow gives birth to their first child – conceived after his death – as she admits to feeling ‘busy and tired’ in the first photos
Chumpy Pullin’s widow Ellidy has given birth to their first child, conceived after the former Olympian’s death.
The brand new mother announced the exciting news on Thursday via her Instagram account and posted a video of her sleeping newborn baby in her story.
“I’ve had a baby!” she says excitedly, before the clip shows the bub lying in a blue blanket on a table next to her.
“And we’ve been a little busy and tired,” reads a super-imposed text, as she turns the camera to her tired eyes and takes a bite of a sandwich.
Chumpy, 32, drowned last July while spearfishing off the Gold Coast.
Ellidy Pullin spoke to good friend Chloe Fisher about her Darling, Shine! podcast about her IVF treatment using Chumpy’s sperm collected posthumously.
My grief is for Chump, he misses fatherhood, I see fathers with their babies who know how good he would have been,” Ellidy said earlier.
Chumpy is believed to have died from drowning in shallow water, which occurs when someone hyperventilates and exhales large amounts of CO2 for a breath-hold dive.
Chumpy Pullin’s widow is candid about the pain it causes her to see other fathers carrying their children, saying her late husband ‘misses fatherhood’
It is believed that Chumpy performed the dive incorrectly, causing the beloved husband and snowboarder to black out and drown.
His death shocked the community given the experience of the former Olympian and extreme sports expert.
He left behind 29-year-old Ellidy who decided to use his sperm for IVF treatment to ensure her husband would become a father and continue his legacy.
She revealed to Mrs. Fisher that seeing other young fathers was a constant reminder of what Chumpy was missing.
“Every day I go to the beach and I see guys walking along the beach with their chicks and the guy is carrying the baby in the baby carrier on his chest and the girl has the dog,” she told the podcast.
“If I see a father with a baby, it kills the damn thing, and I’m so happy for that person, it’s not a pity party here.”
She said being able to have a child with her late husband is “the most beautiful thing ever,” but admitted it will be a bittersweet moment.
Ellidy, 29, decided to use his sperm for IVF treatment to ensure her husband would become a father and continue his legacy.
“I’m having a baby that will be the most beautiful ever and bittersweet because it will almost cause more trauma here and there,” Ellidy said.
“It’s really hard to swallow that he misses this, he deserves this time, he wanted this, he would have been the best father.”
More to come.
