Bravo’s Emmy-winning competition series Project Runway premieres Thursday, October 14.

Returning mentor Christian Siriano, along with judges Nina Garcia, Brandon Maxwell and Elaine Welteroth, will take on 16 contestants from the United States and beyond.

“We have a really great group of very diverse designers from other countries and cultures and we have a lot of really strong female designers that I think are great,” Christian said.

The season 4 champion hosted “Sketching with Siriano” in his beautiful Manhattan studio on Tuesday night to celebrate the new season.

“It’s fashion, but we don’t just look at clothes, it’s like doing something, and our model is really fantastic,” Christian said.

The intimate, invite-only event was a who’s-who of New York City notables, including Alicia Quarles of DailyMailTV and Claire Sulmers of Fashion Bomb Daily.

“It’s fashion, but we don’t just look at clothes, it’s like doing something, and our model is really fantastic,” Christian said.

Attendees were provided with all the tools needed for a fun sketching session: sketch pad, coloring pens, assorted markers, and… Sterling Vineyards wine.

“We’re going to celebrate the new season,” said Christian. “We’ve got cookies and lots of wine and I think drunk sketching is the best!”

“I wanted a naked man, but that’s not what they were going for at Bravo, that’s our next sketch lesson,” Christian joked.

The subject of the evening’s drawing class was none other than supermodel Coco Rocha.

“Coco is making an appearance this season and she has been incredible; it’s my favorite episode I’ve ever seen on Project Runway and it’s not because she’s my girlfriend,” Christian said.

Most agree that few aspects of life have been left untouched by the coronavirus pandemic, and reality television is no different, according to the 35-year-old designer.

“All the designers were very passionate and engaged all season because I think they felt like they had missed so much.

“I think the clothes are incredible because they had all this time to think about what they want to do and what they would like to show the world, so maybe different from a normal season where everyone has such a busy life and it’s hard to concentrate. .

“I think that’s why this season is so good.”

He added: “A lot of the designers have stories about ‘Come to America’ and ‘Follow Your Dreams’, which I really like about this season.”

Each 90 minute episode tests the creativity and technique of the contestants with new challenges.

“My favorite challenge this season is the avant-garde challenge,” the New York-based designer said.

“It’s pretty cool, they have to use faux fur in an interesting way.”

In a first Project Runway, participants will create the ultimate ‘Real Housewives’ women’s reunion outfit from ‘The Real Housewives of Orange County’, ‘The Real Housewives of New York City’ and ‘The Real Housewives of Potomac’.

“It’s a wild episode,” Christian admitted.

“They’re actually very pretty, except for one or two.”

The series’ extensive list of guest stars continues into Season 19 with Taraji P. Henson, Billy Porter and many more.

“Taraji was so nice because she was very cocky and kind of cheeky, Billy Porter was great because he wears fashion, he loves it.

“He gave his opinion on what he would like to wear. We had a lot of designers and supermodels actually wearing clothes, so that’s really great. It was a good mix.’

This season is missing a host.

But “not having a host is different, but it helps us make sure everyone is really absorbed in it,” Christian said.

“Elaine is very emotional about what she likes and what she would wear; Nina is very Nina; Brandon is pretty tough, but in a very fashion designer way.

“It’s a really good balance.”
