Chelsea are poised to discover where they head for the FIFA Club World Cup in December, with the United Arab Emirates expected to be confirmed as host.

The annual meeting of club champions from each confederation was originally supposed to take place in Japan, but they have withdrawn due to the ongoing coronavirus situation in the country.

A shortlist from the UAE, Qatar or South Africa was drawn up to replace them, but South Africa withdrew citing their own Covid problems.

And as Qatar will host the Arab Cup in the first half of December, it looks like the UAE will be named as the host, according to Sky Sports News.

Chelsea, which defeated Manchester City in the Champions League final in Porto in May, will represent Europe at the Club World Cup.

Egyptian club Al Ahly will participate after winning the 2020-21 CAF Champions League in Africa and New Zealand’s Auckland City has also qualified.

The South American representative is from Brazil with Flamengo and Palmeiras competing in the final of the Copa Libertadores in Montevideo, Uruguay on November 27.

Club America and Monterrey, both from Mexico, will play in the CONCACAF Champions League Final on October 28.

The 2021 AFC Champions League Final is on November 23 between Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal and South Korea’s Pohang Steelers in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

An eighth team will be the winner of the host nation’s national competition. The holders of the UAE Pro League title are Al Jazira Club, based in Abu Dhabi.

It would be the fifth time that the Club World Cup will be held in the UAE after 2009, 2010, 2017 and 2018.

Bayern Munich are the defending champions, after beating Mexicans UANL in Qatar last December.

The decision on the location of the World Cup for clubs will be made on Wednesday afternoon in the FIFA council meeting.
