Chelsea stars ‘WILD’ and ‘unhappy’ about Cesar Azpilicueta’s future

Chelsea stars are ‘WANTED’ and ‘unhappy’ that Cesar Azpilicueta’s contract has not been renewed… with the 32-year-old being ‘watched’ by Barcelona and Atletico Madrid before becoming a free agent

  • Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta does not expire in the summer
  • He draws interest in Barcelona and Atletico Madrid who are ‘watching’ him
  • Some of his Chelsea teammates are reportedly ‘baffled’ by all this

Chelsea’s decision not to renew captain Cesar Azpilicueta’s contract beyond the end of the season has left his team-mates “stunned” and “unhappy”, a new report said.

Azpilicueta, 32, arrived at Chelsea from Marseille in 2012, but as things stand he will be leaving Stamford Bridge for nothing this summer.

Eurosport reports that some Chelsea players are confused as to why Azpilicueta’s future remains unclear where there is already uncertainty surrounding Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.

Azpilicueta is free to enter into pre-contract agreements with clubs outside England as early as January and both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are said to be keeping a close eye on the Spaniard’s situation in west London.

Chelsea are facing a critical period of negotiations with their back-line.

Thiago Silva, 37, is also out of contract at the end of this season and the club will try to keep the Brazilian for another season following his success.

Azpilicueta has not spoken publicly about his future in recent months, but Barcelona and Atletico are said to be ‘waiting in the wings’ if he becomes frustrated by the lack of an upcoming Chelsea extension.

The versatile defender can play at right-back, left-back and centre-back and would make an attractive free agent when he hits the market next summer.

In January, Azpilicueta said he has full confidence in the club when it comes to his future at Stamford Bridge.

“I’m not worried,” Azpilicueta said when asked about his contract situation. “Since my arrival I feel completely trusted by the club.

“At the moment it’s true that my contract expires in June, but I’m just concentrating on what’s to come, training and playing the best I can.

‘Everything will come naturally, that’s all I need to say. I have to keep doing what I’m doing and it will come naturally.

“Of course I like being here, I feel loved since I’ve been here and my goal is to stay here as long as possible.”
