He did, however, make a trip to the UK to visit relatives, a spokesperson confirmed.

Obviously, the billionaire Russian businessman will likely visit Cobham’s training ground or the club’s stadium itself during his stay, although Chelsea won’t have a home game until October 20, when they play Malmo in the Champions League.

Abramovich has not been seen in London since he had problems with his business visa three years ago.

He attended the Blues Europa League final victory in Baku in 2019 and the Champions League victory over Manchester City in Porto in May.

Abramovich’s spokesman also confirmed that he traveled to London as an Israeli citizen and thus entered the UK without needing a visa.

His visit can be seen as further substantiation of his commitment to the club, which he has owned since 2003.

Abramovich, who has invested heavily both on and off the pitch, has suspended the planned £1bn redevelopment of Stamford Bridge after being denied a visa to the UK three years ago.

At the time, it was reported that the decision was made due to his frustration at not being able to work in a country where he has spent much of his time since the club took over. Due to the delays, he missed Chelsea’s FA Cup final win in May 2018.
