Charles Martin is ‘desperate’ to avenge his defeat to Anthony Joshua when the American’s promoter revealed his fighter will ‘do anything’ to reclaim his heavyweight crown.

Martin, 35, suffered a second round knockout defeat to AJ in April 2016, easily handing the IBF heavyweight title to the Briton.

The American later admitted he was ‘mentally’ out of it for his fight in London, with some critics accusing Martin of lack of ambition to win the match amid a reported £6million payday.

Now looking for redemption, the 35-year-old will face Luis Ortiz in an IBF title eliminator this weekend.

Although Joshua has since lost his titles to Oleksandr Usyk, Martin and his team want AJ to regain his titles so that a re-title remains possible.

“I think Usyk will beat Joshua again, but I support Joshua,” Martin’s manager, Mike Borao, told Sky Sports.

“Charles desperately wants to fight and knock Joshua out before he retires. He has been focused on that one goal since 2016 – it is what motivates him and it is why he will beat Luiz Ortiz.

“Charles will do everything he can to become a two-time heavyweight champion, including battling a second IBF eliminator against one of the most avoided heavyweights in the world.”

Martin’s determination is so determined to secure a rematch with AJ. His manager revealed that he has called for a fight with Andy Ruiz Jr, knowing that a win over Joshua’s first conqueror would prove he is capable of beating the Briton.

“Charles instructed me to match him with the only fighter who has KOed Joshua, Andy Ruiz,” he added.

“I tried really hard to fight Andy, but he refused.”
