The Egyptian toyboy husband of a British retiree who stunned the nation with intimate details of their sex lives, has insisted he doesn’t use his wife for money and is a “rich man” despite concerns from critics.

Iris Jones, an ex-cleaner from Weston-super-Mare in Somerset, who lives on a pension of £200 a week and disability benefits, met Mohamed Ibriham, from Cairo, on Facebook in the summer of 2019.

The couple later met in person, before getting married in November 2020. But because Mohamed was waiting for a visa, they hadn’t seen each other in person since December last year, and kept in touch by phone and Facebook chat.

Iris – who achieved national fame after sharing details about her sex life with Mohamed – was shopping earlier this month when Mohamed called her to tell her he had been granted a three-year visa after meeting English language requirements and had proved that he was able to move in with Iris.

When they appeared on This Morning today to talk about their reunion, the two dismissed negative comments they received about their 46-year age difference, insisting that they will love each other “forever” – with Mohamed adding that he is a ” rich man’ is with a bungalow in Cairo.

Viewers first met Iris in January 2020, when her love story with Mohamed first began. Finally, on November 3, Mohamed’s visa was approved and they were reunited.

Co-host Holly Willoughby began by explaining that Iris didn’t know what was going to happen while waiting for the visa and Iris said, ‘No, no, day to day life. Life on the cutting edge, really, you know.

‘Just talking, morning, afternoon and evening messages, that got boring. I thought, “When is he coming over?”

Co-host Phillip Schofield asked where Iris was when she learned the visa had been granted.

Iris recalls: ‘In Tesco, I did my shopping, in the fruit and vegetable aisle. Tears streamed down, I couldn’t stop crying. One of the assistants said, “Are you okay?” And I said, “Yeah, I’m just really, really happy.”

Mohamed also described the moment he heard the news. He said, ‘I feel in the air. “Iris!” I yelled on the street in Cairo. Some people think I’m crazy, crazy. My wife, we will finally be together!’

When she was reunited at the airport, Iris said the moment felt “surreal.” She added: “It was like being outside of myself and looking in.”

Phillip asked what life was like in the UK and Mohamed said, ‘I can’t explain. We have very high pressure. I can not explain. Some people attack us. Why? I work… I have business administration. I’m not with Iris because I need something… I’m a rich man, I have a bungalow in Cairo.’

To the negative comments from critics who claimed Mohamed used Iris for her money, Iris said it didn’t ruin the romance for her.

“Love conquers all,” she said. “We’re in trouble now because Mohamed is adjusting to life in the west and I’m adjusting to having a man around.

“He’s very, very neat now. He hasn’t dropped anything on the floor. He asks if I want a cup of tea.”

Mohamed revealed: ‘She is very, very picky.’ Phillip smiled and said, “She’s the boss,” and Mohamed laughed.

About Christmas plans, Iris said, “We don’t know yet, we don’t know if we’ll be invited to one or the other son or if we’ll be alone, they might think we’re on our own, it doesn’t matter.”

Mohamed added: ‘They visit us in our house and say congratulations and greet us. I give you all and all the people around the world who support us, many thanks, much respect, because you all support our love story.’

Iris said she thinks their story could turn into a drama. She revealed: ‘I would like Julie Hesmondhalgh to play me. They would make her look older, but she’s a great actress and she has the same accent. I think [Mohamed] could play himself… He’s a saucer.’

About what Iris’ friends Glenys and Joyce think of Mohamed, Iris said: “They can’t get enough of him, they can’t get enough of him, he is very popular, very famous in Sand Bay. We were recognized in Bristol in a taxi. The cab driver said, “Are you KY’s jelly wife?”

And about their sex life, Iris explained: ‘Yes, our time is not limited, so we don’t have to ration ourselves. [The magic] will never disappear, it will never be destroyed. Anyone who says to me, “How do you find love?” You don’t look for love, it finds you.’

Mohamed said, “Maybe I married a younger woman, but [I wouldn’t] be happy. [Happy] is our goal. The money doesn’t make me happy. Love works wonders.’

This Morning is broadcast on weekdays from 10am on ITV and ITV Hub
