A teenage jockey is in a coma after falling off a horse named Neurologic at the end of a race.

Hannah Fitzgerald, 18, crashed to the ground after finishing fourth in race six in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia regional on Saturday night.

She was unconscious for some time before being rushed to Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital where she was stabilized and eventually flown to a hospital in Perth.

The final event was canceled as other jockeys were too distraught after witnessing the horror trap.

Ms Fitzgerald drove 31 winning races since her debut in June last year.

In October 2020, she received the Trainee of the Year Award at the Apprentice Awards.

Just 10 days after her riding debut on Duck Feet, she won Jupiter’s Sun ahead of trainer Glen Cortes at a funfair in Carnarvon, north of Perth.

The young woman previously told The Races WA that becoming a jockey had exceeded her expectations.

“I enjoy it a lot and it’s more than I expected,” she said.

“I keep getting better as I progress, and it gets better every day.”
